Mudflats Catch Up

I will try to catch up the photos I did not get to on Saturday. While we were waiting for our guide for the mudflats a couple of the German girls decided to roll down a hill so Tessa joined them. They are goofballs in a large group - whether American or German. I posted video of this...

The mudflats are at the North Sea and are created because when the tide goes out the water pulls back about 2 miles from the "shore" that is constantly dry. When we walked to where the sea was actually still what you would think of as "the sea" our guide said that at high tide, about 7 hours later, that part of the mudflat will be under 8-10 feet of water. The mudflats are mostly solid but as you can see there are parts where you can work your way down into the mud. The girls loved that. Our guide was great and spoke pretty good English. He showed us the crabs, worms and other creatures living under the mud. There were little squiggles in the sand we were worried were worm poop but our guide assured us that it was the sand left from the large worms digging down under the surface.... As you can see it was a lot more fun than it sounds at first and the girls learned a thing or two. Of course, you should expect them to come home with one less or one muddy pair of socks!
